How We Teach
How We Teach
The basis of our curricula is “Contextualized Learning.”
In all our programs, instructors and tutors emphasize the competencies learners need for working with their children or for their employers. Those include:
Basic Educational Skills in reading, math and English as a Second Language
Basic Workplace Knowledge
Basic Workplace Skills
Basic Employability Skills, and/or Lifelong Learning Skills.
To accomplish these goals, instructors show how each lesson relates to skills they need to find and keep a job or to help their children. For workplace education, we focus on five occupational priorities Mercer County needs:
- Health Professions
- Transportation
- Skilled Trades
- Manufacturing
- Business
This instruction not only prepares the prospective employee. It helps employers:
- Upgrade their workforce
- Improve their productivity
- Advance their capacity to compete in a global market.
