What are the GED Tests?

The General Educational Development examination (GED), covers the same subjects that people study in high school.   The test covers five subject areas: Language Arts, Writing and Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics.

The Literacy Council of Mercer County provides classes to adults who want to prepare for the GED Test.  Each class is tailored to the individual needs of the students.   These classes are free.  We offer classes at the following four sites:

  • The Literacy Council of Mercer County, Greenville
  • Centennial Place, Farrell
  • The Shenango Valley Community Library, Sharon
  • The Career Link, Sharon

We offer classes in all locations four days per week.  Morning, afternoon, and evening classes may be available, depending on the location.  All materials and textbooks are provided.

Please call 724-588-6141 or 724-981-5494 for more information about preparing for and taking the GED.
