Name: Georgina S. Rettinger, Ph.D
Position: Executive Director with The Literacy Council since its inception in 1986.
Credentials: A founder of The Literacy Council, I graduated from Carlow College with a Bachelor of Arts in English. In 1973, Duquesne University awarded me a Masters of Science Degree in Reading and Language Arts and in 1983, I earned a Ph.D in Language Communications from the University of Pittsburgh. I spent 11 years teaching in schools and 5 years as a school district administrator. From 1984 until 1997, I was a full Professor of Education at Thiel College and a chair of the Education Department from 1992-1997.
Interests: Reading, playing the piano, Italy, white water rafting, hiking.


Name: Daphne Bauer
Position: Office Manager
Credentials: Training consists of Sequal/E-Quality/National Even Start/PAACE/Family Literacy E-Data.
Interests: Cooking, camping, reading, and spending time with my husband and son.


Name: Laura Goda
Position: Even Start Instructor
Credentials: ABO certified (American Board of Optionary)
Interests: Reading, bowling, spending time with family and friends.


Name: Mary Hamilton
Position: ESL Coordinator
Credentials: Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. 23 years experience working in ESL programs.
Interests: I enjoy family activities, photography, traveling, swimming, bicycling, and classical music.


Name: Hal Johnson
Position: GED / Literacy instructor at Mercer County Jail
Credentials: I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in political science from Mount Union College. I have been a volunteer literacy tutor at The Literacy Council of Mercer County.
Interests: I am also a freelance journalist and dabble in photography. A history buff, I enjoy reading about history and politics. I also enjoy cooking.


Name: Geraldine Moore
Position: Coordinator, Sharon Center, Literacy Council of Mercer County
Credentials: Certification from Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. Did undergraduate work in Communication at Youngstown State University and Thiel College. Numerous college and professional course work in Human Resource Management. Lifetime member of the College and University Personnel Association.
Interests: Creative writing, history, politics; avid reader.
