What can YOU do?
Become A Tutor!
What our tutors say: "Tutoring may be one of the most rewarding volunteer jobs. Every session brings smiles, appreciation, giggles about what's misunderstood or mastered as well as occasional frustration about slower-than-hoped-for progress...They often comment that this is the first time they have really enjoyed school. That's hard to beat! Observing student's progress and being proud to be one of the primary people who is helping the student gain new skills."
The Literacy Council depends on community members who are willing to donate their time to serve as volunteer tutors. The Tutors will be paired and interact one-on-one with students who may need help with reading, writing, math, or learning to speak English.
Anyone who reads can tutor. We offer training and support. And you will experience the greatest satisfaction of all: the satisfaction of helping people discover whole new lives.
We have students in all corners of Mercer County who need your help. Please consider one-on-one tutoring with the Literacy Council.

ESL: English as a Second Language
ESL is offered at all of our locations. First, the ESL Coordinator meets with the potential client and determines the best program for this person. She then chooses and trains the ESL tutor. Tutor and client pairs must meet for a minimum of three hours a week. There is no charge for this service.
